On June 4, 2016, at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, unbeaten light heavyweight contender Artur Beterbiev faced experienced Argentine challenger Ezequiel Maderna in a bout for the WBA-NABA light heavyweight title. Coming into the fight, Beterbiev was 9–0 (9 KOs), while Maderna held a record of 23–3 (15 KOs). Beterbiev controlled the action from the opening bell, applying steady pressure and landing the heavier punches. Maderna showed toughness but struggled to deal with Beterbiev’s power and relentless attack. The turning point came in the third round, when Beterbiev dropped Maderna twice and forced a point deduction after Maderna repeatedly spat out his mouthpiece. The Argentine entered the fourth round already far behind and under heavy pressure.
