The History Of The Freebird Rule

Episode 389: The Freebird Rule Michael "PS" Hayes, Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy, & Buddy "Jack" Roberts were the 3 man team known as The Fabulous Freebirds. In 1980 when they debuted in Georgia Championship Wrestling, they introduced a new concept in tag team wrestling; where if you are a 3 man(or more) team, you can use any 2 members at a time & your opponent doesn't know what 2 you're using. This applied with regular matches, but in the case of this episode championship matches. The Freebird Rule was popularized by The Freebirds, but used by many different units in wrestling since the introduction of the rule. It's also been used for singles championships as well as Six Man/Trios championships.
