Neil Taylor, Sean Wharton & Somali Champions League | The Dragon On My Shirt

Football

What does it really mean to be Welsh today? In this episode of The Dragon in My Shirt, we explore identity, representation, and belonging through football, art, and community. Welsh creative studio UNIFY co-founders Yusuf Ismail and Shaqi Hasson share how they are redefining Welshness and opening up the creative industries in Wales to be more inclusive and accessible. Their ground-breaking art installation “My City, My Shirt”, depicting Black, Asian and ethnically diverse Cardiff residents wearing the Cardiff City FC shirt, challenged traditional narratives and led to high-profile collaborations with global brands including Adidas and WWE. Presented by Darren Chetty, the episode also features: Neil Taylor, former Swansea City and Aston Villa defender and EURO 2016 squad member, is discussing the PFA’s Asian Inclusion Mentoring Scheme Sean Wharton, the first Black manager in the JD Cymru Premier on barriers to progression and representation in coaching Eleeza Khan, referee and advocate for inclusive fan culture Cardiff Bay Warriors, winners of the 2022 Somali British Champions League, on community pride, visibility and acknowledgement Together, they ask vital questions: Has Wales’ diversity been reflected in sport and popular media? “You cannot be what you cannot see” - do pioneers challenge that idea? What does an inclusive football culture really look like? Does inclusivity in football require success on the pitch? Alongside the episode, Darren Chetty provides discussion questions designed to spark meaningful conversations in clubs, schools, and organisations across Wales - helping to challenge racism, foster understanding, and build a more inclusive future for Welsh football. ► Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com//FAWales?sub_... ► X:   / fawales   ► X:   / cymru   ► Facebook:   / fawales   ► Instagram:   / cymru   ► TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/cymru ► X:   / cymruleagues   ► X:   / adranleagues   ► Facebook:   / cymruleagues   ► Instagram:   / cymruleagues   ► Instagram:   / adranle
