On November 7, 2009, at the Arena Nürnberger Versicherung in Nuremberg, Bavaria, Germany, former undisputed cruiserweight champion David Haye challenged WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev in a bout famously billed as "David vs. Goliath." Coming into the fight, Haye was 22–1 (21 KOs), while Valuev held a record of 50–1 (34 KOs). Giving away over 7 stone (99 pounds) in weight and standing nearly a foot shorter, Haye relied on his speed, movement, and sharp counterpunching to frustrate the giant champion. Valuev pressed forward throughout, but struggled to land cleanly against Haye's elusive footwork. The fight remained tactical for much of the contest, with Haye picking his moments carefully. In the final round, he landed a powerful right hand that visibly rocked Valuev, finishing the fight strongly and leaving a lasting impression on the judges.
