Stevens enjoyed some success with his counters, but Lemieux was the busier fighter and gradually began backing his opponent toward the ropes. In the third round, Lemieux unleashed a devastating left hook that landed flush on Stevens' chin. Stevens was knocked unconscious instantly and collapsed through the ropes, prompting the referee to wave off the contest without a count.
