GAME-LIKE Practice 104: 6v6 Threshold | DRILLS to Optimize Player Development with Karch Kiraly
One of the most effective ways to help athletes perform on the court is to adapt practice drills to mimic the 6v6 game. In the fourth of five drill demonstrations, Karch Kiraly, Head Coach for the U.S. Men’s National Team, guides coaches through a “Threshold” drill. This drill requires the completion of a skill to gain any opportunity for a point during the rally. Athletes must hit a certain level or threshold of skill execution during plan. Teammates or coaches may determine what the threshold focus is, however, this drill works best for speed or target objectives. Kiraly demonstrates the drill and how to provide useful feedback using a threshold skill of serving to a particular seam on the court. 0:00 – Introduction 0:30 – Drill Overview: 6v6 Threshold Concept 1:18 – Purpose of Threshold Scoring 2:32 – Court Setup and Player Positions 3:40 – Threshold Rules Explained 4:55 – Live Drill Demonstration 6:35 – Coaching Points and Emphasis 8:05 – Common Errors and Adjustments 9:25 – Applying Threshold Training to Match Play 10:55 – Key Takeaways for Coaches
