After winning the toss, West Indies chose to bat first on a pitch that offered uneven bounce and little pace. While runs were hard to come by, Ridley Jacobs Campbell continued his fine form with his second fifty in two days, anchoring the innings. Brian Lara, the only other batsman to cross 30, later remarked that 190 would be a competitive total — a prediction that proved spot on. India’s reply unravelled almost immediately. Both new openers were dismissed in the second over, setting the tone for a disastrous chase.
