[HD] Meeting Whilce Portacio at SuperManila 2023

As a long-time comicbook fan, Whilce Portacio is one of the greats that I have idolized, given his contribution to the industry - creating Bishop of the X-Men, and mentoring other Filipino artists who have then followed in his footsteps in becoming global comic artists for big companies like DC and Marvel. In 2006, I was invited to present a research paper during the Singapore Youth and Media Conference (my first ever international conference) and my topic was the Filipino-American identity depicted through his characters’ stories - Bishop, Gerry Alan (Stone: The Awakening mini-series), and Joel Alonday or Grail (Wetworks). He has been to the Philippines numerous times but it was only today, December 17, that I was able to finally meet him and have books signed.
