The big boys battle it out in submission only bjj match with toe hold finish
These big guys roll out ready to rumble . One guy decides to sit to guard and play bottom game. It ends up being a long night for him. This match is a classic example of why you must be able to quickly and efficiently escape bottom position. In a sporting context the bottom guy did not do anything to try to win the match, granted he was going against a physically dominate opponent. Still if you hope to achieve victory you must improve your position, threaten and ultimatum finish your opponent. In order to escape you must create sweep or submission treats that force your opponent to address them. In this example the top guy was able to attack as much as he wanted ultimately taking the bottom guy's will to fight. The bottom player thought he was saving energy by just sitting in those positions. However, he was doing the exact opposite as the top guy's superior position wore down the bottom guy more than escape attempts would have. The top guy gets past the leg and the bottom guy turtles. For the rest of the match the top guy switches between front headlock and top turtle. The bottom guy doesn't really attempt any improvement to his position. If you are training submission wrestling/bjj for self defense you must have quick escapes from these very bad positions. The top guy eventually slaps on a intimidating toe hold and his opponent wisely taps. This analisis is not meant to be dismissive of the bottom guy's skills. Anyone competing deserves credit for overcoming the nerves that go along with something like that.
