On March 3, 2018, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, USA, WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder defended his title against undefeated Cuban contender Luis Ortiz in one of the most dramatic heavyweight title fights of the decade. Coming into the fight, Wilder was 39–0 (38 KOs), while Ortiz held a perfect record of 28–0 (24 KOs). Wilder started aggressively and scored a knockdown in the fifth round with a powerful right hand. Ortiz recovered well and took control of several middle rounds, hurting Wilder badly in the seventh round with a sustained assault that left the champion in serious trouble. Showing tremendous heart, Wilder weathered the storm and gradually regained his rhythm. In the tenth round, he landed a devastating right uppercut followed by a barrage of punches that dropped Ortiz.
