Nino Schembri quickly made a name for himself as the king of the omoplata, a game he developed making better use of his highly flexible and offensive guard game, being also one of the first grapplers recorded using the ‘lasso guard’ and the ‘rubber guard’. He is considered by many (BJJ Heroes included) as one of the best guard players to have ever competed in the sport. Nino is short for Antonio in Portuguese (Schembri’s first name), as for Elvis, it comes from Schembri’s love for Elvis Presley, the King of Rock n’ Roll, and the fact that he used to mimic some of the King’s dance moves in celebrating his victories. Roberto Atalla is one of the finest Jiu Jitsu black belts teaching in Europe today. This legendary BJJ instructor and former World Champion is one of the founders of the Rio Grappling Club, an academy that has been producing some of the best European grapplers for the passed few years. “Risada” was a name given to him by Helio Moreira “Soneca” when he was still a white belt. The name stands for “laughter” or “Laughing” and Helio called him that because he thought Atalla was always laughing when training. #NinoSchembri #OldSchoolBJJ #GracieBarra
