I don't hate this movie because it is misogynistic.
I don't hate this movie because of its rape scenes.
I don't hate this movie because of its violence, in fact that's the only thing I like about it.
I hate it because it's a piece of badly made garbage filled with some of the worst actors possible to hire. The actors playing the antagonists Idea of acting is screaming badly written lines at each other.
I have seen the original and remake and sequels of the remake, but this is a direct sequel to the original ''exploitation classic'' so I knew what to expect in the way of graphic content. I am not one to shy away from such content; I am somewhat of a fan of extreme cinema and 70 s horror and sleaze. This long-awaited official sequel is mostly a big disappointment, even with the return of the original director and leading lady.
The story is pretty lame; it tries hard to recreate the original's set pieces. It seems that the family of one of the original movie's revenge victims have waited almost 40 years to exact their revenge. This time it is the daughter of Camille Keaton's character that is the victim of the rapes and beatings. I presume this is because few would want to see Camille Keaton, now about 70 naked.
The antagonists are seeking revenge for the death of the original rapists by Keaton's character. They are led by the crazed widow of the rapist that was finally seduced and castrated in the 1978 movie. Also included is the father of the slow-witted character in the original, who is just as dim whited.
The characters are all stereotypical redneck. In fact they give a bad name to stereotypical rednecks. The story is full of stupidity and a lot of the plot just doesn't add up. The widow redneck has somehow managed to send two kids to college by pumping gas for the past 40 years. She is talking about how good they turned out. Anyone in this family is seriously messed up. There is a feeble attempt at a twist in the last 20 minutes, if you want to call it that.
I think if you are interested in this movie then you must have heard of, or most likely seen the 1978 original, I Spit on Your Grave AKA Day of the Woman. I think you will likely be disappointed by this sequel, as most of the (over) acting is hard to take, unless you like people shouting at each other. The other problem is that it goes on for so long at nearly 2 hours 28 minutes. Far too long for what is basically a badly made exploitation movie. I believe it lay on the shelf waiting for a distributor for nearly 4 years. I don't think they had any luck finding a distributor, as the opening and closing credits of the version I saw had no company logo, only the director or probably a relation of the director was credited as producer. It's a film that mostly misogynistic, sleazy and violent, a relic from the 70's but made 40 years later. For me, that's not necessarily a bad thing as I am a fan of 70's B movies. I just wish this had better actors and was better made. I give this a 3/10 only for the slightly over the top gory scenes.
