I don't think this movie was gotten/inspired by what's written in the Bible, because almost every key points are completely skipped from when the wise men left, Joseph leaving Bethlehem, Jesus not believing himself, his baptism, his betrayal, and even the miracle he did, most were not recorded, and the only one recorded is not even detailed how he met zacheus is totally different from what's in the scripture How he was betrayed, and his triumphant entry was totally off point too I believe that these could be done better the most annoying part is his crucifixion and resurrection, complete rubbish

No need for a spoiler alert. This movie was spoiled before I wrote this. I understand that this was not the Bible. I understand that it was to depict only what was historically supportable. I understand that it was not a spiritual telling of the story. What I do not understand is how they managed to cast the lead with an actor who could not act. The actor portraying Jesus was terrible. O'reilly kept telling us on his FNC show that this Muslim actor "nailed" the audition. Given the performance I witnessed I can only believe that the actor was so nervous that he doubled up on the Valium. If not, the actor apparently nailed the audition by simply hitting his mark and mumbling his line (shades of Marlon in Apocalypse Now). I've seen greater emotional range from a cockatoo. When Jesus told his disciples, "Follow ME, and I will make you "Fishers of MEN!" I'm sure he gave it more emotion than the line, "would you like fries with that?". Too many better movies of the Bible - don't waste your time on the one. Try the one where Jesus ends up on Gilligan's Island.

After seeing this had a 4.5 rating after a few reviews, I felt compelled to even things up a bit. The negative reviews focus on the religious aspects of the story, and I don't think that's the point of this presentation. A 4.5 is not accurate - it is better than that by any measure. I for one enjoyed the different perspectives; Jesus, the Romans, the Jewish leaders, and the Jewish Rabbis. National Geographic has an interactive tie in on their website that gives details. If you're interested in the motivations of the different players outside of the religious, then I recommend. I found it somewhat inspiring, but I don't think this the focus of the film.
